About

Our Therapist

Dr. Shervin Vakili

I’m a Registered Psychologist in Alberta with a background in both research and clinical practice. I completed a Master’s degree in experimental psychology and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, and was trained in a scientist-practitioner model—meaning my work is grounded in evidence, but guided by a practical understanding of people.

Over the past two decades, I’ve worked across hospital, academic, and private practice settings. My approach reflects that range: structured, evidence-informed, and focused on what actually helps in real life.

I’ve held academic and training roles with the University of Calgary and Alberta Health Services, including serving as an Assistant Adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, Clinical Supervisor and Instructor in Psychology, and Site Director for the Calgary Clinical Psychology Residency Program. I’ve also contributed to research as a principal investigator and peer reviewer for several clinical journals.

Earlier in my career, I spent nearly a decade as a senior psychologist at Alberta Health Services’ Addiction Centre, working with adolescents and families facing complex mental health and substance use concerns. That work shaped much of how I think about therapy: practical, collaborative, and grounded in real-world challenges.

Since 2005, I’ve been in private practice working with adults, adolescents, couples, and families. Much of my work focuses on ADHD, anxiety, insomnia, and related concerns—areas where structured, skills-based approaches can make a meaningful difference.

Our Therapy

Approach

I see therapy as a combination of two things:

Evidence-based Methods

Knowing what works

Clinical Judgment

Knowing how to apply it well

Good therapy isn’t just about insight or technique—it’s about helping people make changes that hold up in everyday life.

A Note On

Experience

Over time, clinicians develop not just knowledge, but judgment—an ability to recognize patterns, adapt approaches, and focus on what actually helps.

My work reflects over 20 years of that experience across different settings, populations, and types of concerns.
